Bwthyn Clychau’r Gog
Clychau’r Gog is the Welsh for bluebells. It is a small cottage for a couple, on the edge of the Clocaenog Forest with the Berwyn mountains beyond. It sleeps two.
The cottage
Carefully restored with comfort, warmth and tranquillity in mind, Bwthyn Clychau’r Gog blends contemporary interiors with the original character of the building, including a beautifully refurbished Victorian wrought-iron bed. Throughout the restoration, locally sourced materials were used wherever possible, creating a cottage that feels deeply connected to its surroundings.
Bwthyn Clychau’r Gog sits alongside its larger neighbouring cottage, Bryn Eithin, within a small private collection of converted farm buildings. Each cottage enjoys its own private garden and parking, preserving a sense of seclusion and privacy even when both are occupied.
The space
Upstairs, a wonderfully spacious bedroom with an ensuite bathroom creates a calm and restful retreat, centred around a restored Victorian wrought-iron bed. Downstairs, an open-plan lounge and hall with a log-burning stove invites slow evenings and quiet mornings, while a generous kitchen and dining area offer plenty of room to cook, gather and relax.
Patio doors open onto private outdoor spaces and the garden, allowing the surrounding landscape to become part of the experience. With logs provided and the stove ready for your arrival, comfort begins from the very first evening.
“This is the 10th year we have stayed at this amazing cottage. Jane, our host, has once again provided us with everything we wanted for a brilliant stay.
The cottage is immaculate, the furniture is so comfy, the bed is amazingly comfortable, we didn’t use the log fire this time as the cottage was warm enough, the wine, the lemon cake (oh the amazing lemon cake!), the free range eggs are well appreciated by us. We told a close friend about this cottage, and he has booked a week’s stay. The area is so quiet and peaceful, and there are some nice pubs about 20 min drive away.
We can’t wait till we come back next year! Once again, thanks, Jane, for everything. You are a top host if anyone decides to book this cottage. You will not be disappointed.”
